May 7, 2015 at 1:09 PM (PT)
MIDWEST COMMUNICATIONS Active Rock WVRX (95.7 THE X)/KNOXVILLE, TN flipped to Country at 3:00p (ET) today, utilizing the ENVISION NETWORKS and KROEGER MEDIA syndicated brand “DUKE-FM, Playing The Legends of Country.” That makes four Country outlets in the market now, as “THE DUKE” joins CUMULUS WIVK, SCRIPPS WCYQ and M&M BROADCASTING WMYL (MERLE 96.7) in vying for KNOXVILLE’s Country life group.
The station will be jockless in the foreseeable future, with RANDY CHAMBERS handling Brand Manager duties. As a result of the flip (NET NEWS 5/7), the entire WVRX staff exits, including PD/afternoon drive MIKE "HURRICANE SHANE" SCHOENHERR, midday personality SCOTT BOHANNON and evening host JOHN “FISTER” WILSON (678- 744-9722).
KNOXVILLE's "DUKE" joins other similarly branded MIDWEST Country stations, WWDK/LANSING, MI, WGEE/GREEN BAY-APPLETON, WI and WLFW/EVANSVILLE, IN.
