Sumner Redstone To Miss CBS Corporation Shareholders' Meeting
May 14, 2015 at 5:24 PM (PT)
CBS CORP. Chairman SUMNER REDSTONE will not attend next THURSDAY's shareholders meeting in NEW YORK, the company announced TODAY (5/14). The 91-year-old chair of CBS and VIACOM's health has been the subject of much recent speculation, and he recently asserted that he is healthy in an e-mail interview with VANITY FAIR, but his absence from company events like VIACOM's shareholders meeting earlier this year has given rise to talk about succession and the recent FCC filings naming daughter SHARI as the head of a trust being formed to succeed him, with SHARI REDSTONE apparently controlling a majority of votes for the trust.
The LOS ANGELES TIMES reports that REDSTONE said in a statement about his pending absence, "I had been planning on attending CBS’s 2015 Annual Meeting, but unfortunately will not be able to travel to NEW YORK for the event this year. I hope to attend next year’s meeting." REDSTONE turns 92 on MAY 27th.
