Rising superstar FKA TWIGS' eagerly awatied dance show "Congregata," debuted last night at the BROOKLYN HANGAR, kicking off RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY' FESTIVAL NEW YORK's month-long series of events. The shows continue tonight and tomorrow.
"'Congregata' is a coming together of my closest and most talented collaborators who I met since moving to LONDON when I was 17," noted FKA TWIGS via FACEBOOK. "It's an insight into my mind, my roots, my inspirations. A swelling conceptual performance using dance, performance and my music to-date to create a world that I want you to share with me."
The show featured songs from her EP1, EP2, LP1 as well as new music. "Congregata" also featured 12 dancers that included Voguers (DEREK AUGUSTE, ALEX CEPHUS, JAVIER NINJA/HOUSE OF NINJA, DASHAUN "EVISU" WESLEY, BENJAMIN MILAN/HOUE OF MILAN, LEIOMY MIZRAHI/HOUSE OF MIZRAHI), Krumpers (MALICK "ANDROIDX" BRIGHT, DOMINANT -- lead dancer, from WET WIPEZ), Bone-Breakers (KANER FLEX, BATS) and Contemporary (ROSS SANDS, DENZEL). The show was directed by FKA TWIGS with help from RYAN HEFFINTON, with choreography led by AARON SILLIS. Throughout the evening, FKA TWIGS wore costumes made by her stylist KAREN CLARKSON and her mother, and some of the dancers wore outfits designed by the late ALEXANDER McQUEEN.
