GENERAL MOTORS has announced that APPLE CarPlay and GOOGLE Android Auto would be available on 14 models of CHEVROLET cars in the 2016 model year. The in-dash OS options will be available through GM's MyLink system; only CarPlay will be offered with the 8-inch MyLink at the outset, with Android Auto available later.
CEO MARY BARRA said, “For most of us, our smartphones are essential. Partnering with APPLE and GOOGLE to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how CHEVROLET continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”
GM's partnership with APPLE and GOOGLE was announced last year, but WEDNESDAY's announcement is the first confirmation of the launch's timing. HYUNDAI earlier this week announced that it would offer Android Auto as a software upgrade for 2015 Sonata sedans.
