Rumor: iHeartMedia/Indianapolis About To Go Country And Go 'Big'

If reports from the INDIANAPOLIS BUSINESS JOURNAL (IBJ) are correct, iHEARTMEDIA is about to jump into the Country battle there, joining the market’s current 6+ leader, EMMIS WLHK, and ninth-ranked CUMULUS WFMS for Country supremacy. According to the IBJ, iHEART is set to purchase DISNEY RADIO’s WDRZ, change the call letters to WUBG, flip the station Country, and use the company’s “BIG” branding model - which has also been recently installed at its CHICAGO (WEBG, BIG 95.5) and PITTSBURGH (WPGB, BIG 104.7) stations.
Both Country outlets have made the flip during the past eight months, WEBG going in JANUARY (NET NEWS 1/5) and preceded by WPGB in AUGUST (NET NEWS 8/7). iHEART has supposedly secured the BIG983INDY.COM domain already, says IBJ, though it did not mention a launch date for INDY’s possible new Country station.
