KSBJ BROADCASTING Contemporary Christian KSBJ (89.3 GOD LISTENS)/HOUSTON overcame TROPICAL STORM BILL, a lightning strike to one of the transmitters and a phone outage during the beginning hours of the annual fundraiser to blow through their operating goal of $265,000/month.
Many HOUSTON influencers joined KSBJ during Sharathon including Chief TERRY GARRISON of the HOUSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT, JIM MCINGVALE, owner of GALLERY FURNITURE, his daughter LIZ MCINGVALE, founder of the PEACE OF MIND FOUNDATION, JOEL COWLEY, President and CEO of the HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO and the first DJ to sign on KSBJ in 1982, BUDDY HOLIDAY.
JIM MCINGVALE, known locally as MATTRESS MACK, and his wife LINDA personally donated the biggest gift in KSBJ's history with their $10,000 monthly pledge ($120k total).
Pres./GM TIM MCDERMOTT explained, "What an amazing Sharathon. Despite some major challenges, we saw an incredible response in giving. For the first time ever in our 33 year history, two different businessmen who love KSBJ gave gifts of $100,000 and $120,000. Wow! We have an exciting vision for the next year and thousands of listeners responded to that vision. Our goal was met and GOD was glorified!"
At the close of Sharathon the ministry raised a total of $3,194,140. As a result of the funds raised, KSBJ plans to extend the station and ministry’s reach by adding a counseling component to the prayer ministry, expanding the mentoring program with a bilingual mentor and continuing to spread the hope of CHRIST through billboards and other communication channels.
