SAG-AFTRA Cuts Deals With Management At Chicago Public Media, KPBS/San Diego

CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WBEZ and Variety WBEW (VOCALO 89.5)/CHICAGO staffers have reached agreement with management on their first union contract, a two-year deal reached between the company and SAG-AFTRA. In addition, the staff at SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY News-Talk KPBS-F/SAN DIEGO has also ratified its first union contract via SAG-AFTRA, a 2 1/2 year deal.
CHICAGO Local Director of Broadcast PAULA WEINBAUM said, “This contract achieved the bargaining unit’s highest priority: a voice in the workplace."
“This is a great day for KPBS and for SAN DIEGO,” said KPBS MIDDAY EDITION host MAUREEN CAVANAUGH. “This first contract means professional standards and fair policies will enhance the great journalism at KPBS for years to come. It’s a victory for everyone involved.”
“Public media is growing and our two successful contract votes today demonstrate the growing desire for public media professionals to have a voice in their workplace to build an even better environment for generating news, talk and digital content,” said SAG-AFTRA Chief Broadcast Officer MARY CAVALLARO.
