SESAC has purchased songwriting rights clearinghouse THE HARRY FOX AGENCY, reports the NEW YORK TIMES. The paper says that the deal will be formally announced TODAY (7/7) and no terms were disclosed.
The deal would give SESAC control of mechanical licenses for music sales as well as broadcast, digital, and public performance royalty collection.
SESAC, unlike ASCAP and BMI, is not subject to regulatory agreements with the federal government preventing them from controlling both kinds of rights.
