Longtime WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY football and men's basketball broadcaster BUD NAMECK is exiting and MATT CHAZANOW has been named Voice of the COUGARS, the school's rights holder, IMG COLLEGE's COUGAR IMG SPORTS MARKETING, announced WEDNESDAY (7/8). NAMECK has been on the COUGARS football crew for 13 years, first as sideline reporter from 2002 through 2013 and then as play-by-play voice from 2013; he has called men's basketball since 1993-94.
CHAZANOW, for the last seven years a manager for IMG college network broadcasts at WSU, ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, GONZAGA, OREGON, TEXAS, UCLA, and WASHINGTON but also previously a play-by-play announcer for ACC football and basketball and BIG EAST basketball, will also call baseball for the COUGARS. On football, CHAZANOW will be paired with BOB ROBERTSON, JASON GESSER, and JESSAMYN MCINTYRE. For baseball, CHAZANOW is replacing STEVEN GRUBBS, who will continue to call volleyball and women's basketball.
“MATT has tremendous broadcast credentials, including having called hundreds of games on the IMG Network the past seven years,” said IMG COLLEGE VP of Broadcasting CHRIS FERRIS. “We’re very excited to have a single personality unifying WSU’s major sports and contributing to world-class broadcasts. MATT will be a great addition to the COUGARS' broadcasting teams.”
“It is an incredible opportunity and privilege to be the voice of the COUGARS,” said CHAZANOW. “To live and work in PULLMAN and be part of the WSU family is a dream come true. I look forward to be a part of the COUGAR Family for many years to come. Go COUGS.”
“I have had the best seat in the house for more than 30 years being able to broadcast WSU sports,” said NAMECK. “I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of COUGAR nation. I am grateful to have created COUGAR friendships over the years that will last a lifetime.”
