ALPHA MEDIA Urban WHXT( HOT 103.9/93.9)/COLUMBIA, SC has been broadcasting all week from the SOUTH CAROLINA State House. They were live on location until the Confederate Flag came down as scheduled this morning at 10a (ET).
SOUTH CAROLINA Gov. NIKKI HALEY used nine pens THURSDAY to sign a law for removal of the flag from the State House grounds. The flag will be sent to the state's Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum for display. Each pen will go to the families of the nine victims of last month's shooting deaths at CHARLESTON's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
SVP/Market Manager MIKE HARTEL said, “When a moment and a movement like this just captures our nation’s attention, I’m always so proud of the radio medium for being out in the community right smack in the middle of it all. It wasn’t exactly easy to pull off, but I think historic moments like this bring out the best in radio people and our staff was actually excited about all the long, and extremely hot, additional hours they put in this week!”
OM CHRIS CONNERS added, “It’s been such an emotional roller coaster these past couple of weeks, starting with the tragic shootings in CHARLESTON, and now with the celebration of the flag finally coming down. I can’t think of another place I would rather be that out on the streets with the people of this great community.”
