PATRICIA VALENCIA, better known as PATTY CAMPOS, the afternoon driver at TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Hot AC KSII (KISS-FM)/EL PASO, is seeing her wish come true with an audition for NBC's hit singing show, "THE VOICE," according to an article about the LAS CRUCES, NM, native in the local SANTAFENEWMEXICAN.COM.
For nearly 10 years, VALENCIA has worked in radio, holding down shifts as the longtime midday host on KHQT (HOT 103)/LAS CRUCES, spent several years co-hosting the morning show on crosstoen Country KGRT, and has spent the past five years on KISS FM.
“Working in radio has definitely made me more comfortable in front of a crowd,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what size, I can get up in front of a crowd and talk.”
Her opportunity to audition for the TV show came from a chance encounter. VALENCIA previously traveled to JACKSONVILLE, FL, in 2006 to audition for “AMERICAN IDOL.” She didn’t make it on to the show, but has frequently sung the national anthem at area festivals and sporting events, including minor league baseball games in LAS CRUCES.
Earlier this month, she performed a song on the patio at during "Cool Canyon Nights" — KISS FM’s free summer music series.
When CANDLEBOX came to EL PASO to perform at the EL PASO DOWNTOWN STREET FESTIVAL. VALENCIA made friends with the band’s manager, MATT IUDICE, who passed along some videos of her singing to a friend of his, a producer for "THE VOICE," arranging a private audition for her in LOS ANGELES.
“I’m doing whatever I can that will help my chances of them, not only hearing my voice, but also seeing me with a stage presence,” said VALENCIA.
TOWNSQUARE MEDIA EL PASO GM BRAD DUBOW feels VALENCIA has what it takes to connect with an audience.
“PATTY is an awesome person and a hardworking talent. Be it her on-air work, her social media communication, or her ability to perform the national anthem in front of thousands, she connects with her audience on a regular basis,” DUBOW said. “Everyone at KISS FM is extremely proud of her and is wishing her the best with this exciting opportunity.”
