Nielsen Music Canada First Half Report: Streams Top 10.5 Billion, Digital, Vinyl Albums Both Up

NIELSEN MUSIC CANADA released its midyear report today for the six-month period ending JUNE 28th, with streaming volume continuing to grow. More than 10.5 billion audio and video streams were streamed on demand. Digital album sales were also up from last year at this time, showing an increase of 10%, though CD sales were down almost 9% and total sales were flat.
Digital Tracks are down 10% vs. mid-year 2014. Combining Digital Albums and Track Equivalent Albums results in Total Overall Digital Music Sales up 3.2%. Vinyl LPs also keep growing, up 40%, with total units sold at 207K as opposed to last year's 148k.
TAYLOR SWIFT's "1989" is the year's Top-Selling Album/TEA in CANADA with 172k, barely edging ED SHEERAN's "X," at 170k, with the "Fifth Shades of Grey" soundtrack at 134k, SAM SMITH's "In The Lonely Hour" at 132k and homegrown YOAN at 101k.
SHEERAN's "X" tops the list of pure Album Sales with 117,000 over TAYLOR SWIFT's 111k. DRAKE's "If You're Reading This..." was the Top Digital Seller with 77k, followed by SHEERAN and SWIFT, while MARK RONSON f/BRUNO MARS' "Uptown Funk!" received the Top Radio Airplay, the Top Digital Song Downloads, the Top Audio Streams, the Top On-Demand Streams as well as the Top Audio and Video On-Demand streams.
