NEW YORK sports radio fans are abuzz with reports that both CHRIS "MAD DOG" RUSSO and MIKE FRANCESA have indicated that they would be open to working together again at some point.
An offhand response by RUSSO to a question by YANKEES television voice and ESPN Sports WEPN-F (ESPN NEW YORK 98.7FM)/NEW YORK afternoon host MICHAEL KAY on his YES NETWORK "CENTERSTAGE" show got the ball rolling, with KAY asking if a reunion might happen and RUSSO, who left CBS RADIO Sports WFAN-A's "MIKE AND THE MAD DOG" in 2008 for his present SIRIUSXM gig, said "Yeah, I would, definitely, I would consider it ... Why not? I miss the camaraderie ... you never say never." NEWSDAY's NEIL BEST followed up by asking FRANCESA about RUSSO's comments, and FRANCESA, who has been hinting at either a departure from WFAN or retirement at the end of his current contract, said "Yes, I would listen."
FRANCESA's contract at WFAN runs through the end of 2017. RUSSO's SIRIUSXM deal ends in 2016, and a separate deal with MLB NETWORK runs until the end of 2016.
