"As I Am: The Life And times Of DJ AM," the documentary from director KEVIN KERSLAKE celebrating the life of the late DJ pioneer ADAM MICHAEL GOLDSTEIN (DJ AM), launched its crowdfunding campaign today via INDIEGOGO. To date, a total of $47,600 out of a total of $125,000 has been raised.
Self-financed and independently produced by MANIFEST in partnership with INTEGRAL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP (IEG), contributions to the campaign will help fund the film’s music licenses and self-distribution/marketing costs. Proceeds from any online, TV or theatrical distribution of the film will benefit MUSICARES, the chosen charity for the DJ AM MEMORIAL FUND, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
"As I Am" is told from the inside out, featuring AM’s iconic mixes, never-before-seen footage, photos, and a riveting autobiographical speech by AM shortly before his death. Among those interviewed on his legacy are MARK RONSON, STEVE AOKI, A-TRAK, MIX MASTER MIKE, DIPLO, DJ JAZZY JEFF, JON FAVREAU and DR. DREW PINSKY. The film also explores AM’s triumph over an early struggle with substance abuse, which resulted in 11 years of model sobriety and a life devoted to helping others in recovery. After surviving a deadly plane crash with BLINK 182’s TRAVIS BARKER, AM suffered from survivor’s guilt and PTSD, which in part led to a fatal relapse in 2009.
Fans who contribute to the "As I Am" campaign will be the first to see the film and have access to a number of valuable collectibles and one-of-a-kind rewards, including:
-- Access to AM’s personal 900+ collector sneaker collection, plus his signed album covers, vintage T-shirts and art collection
-- Dog tag-style USB drive with 25 of AM's iconic mixes, including two mixes that have never been released
-- From AM's collection, a limited edition BANKSY art piece, titled "Jack And Jill (Police Kids)," signed by BANKSY himself
-- AM’s DAFT PUNK costume, an exact, head-to-toe replica of THOMAS BANGALTER's outfit made by the band's personal tailor, including full leather jacket and helmet, that he wore at HARD Haunted Mansion on HALLOWEEN 2008.
DJ AM pioneered a new open-format or mash-up style which mixed together rock, hip-hop, R&B, and EDM. Known as the first rock star of the DJ world, the entrepreneurial AM went on to become one of the most influential DJs in the world.
