Condolences to family and friends of longtime former WGPA-A (SUNNY 1100)/BETHLEHEM, PA owner and host and polka band leader "JOLLY JOE" TIMMER, who died MONDAY in NAZARETH, PA at 85 after a battle with dementia, according to independent WFMZ-TV/ALLENTOWN.
TIMMER sold WGPA in MARCH after owning it since 1992. He was a prominent member of the LEHIGH VALLEY music scene, promoting polka shows for many decades, hosting a cable TV polka show on RCN-TV, and being a fixture as a performer at the region's MUSIKFEST throughout its 30 year history. TIMMER also owned a music store, "JOLLY JOE'S HOUSE OF MUSIC," in BETHLEHEM, and owned the RAVE RECORDS polka label.
The JOLLY JOE TIMMER ORCHESTRA will play MUSIKFEST this year in TIMMER's honor, opening the event on AUGUST 7th.
