JIM LYNAM, afternoon host on MATRIX BROADCASTING Classic Rock WFXF-F (103.9 THE FOX)/CHICAGO and former longtime personality on MERLIN MEDIA/CUMULUS Alternative WKQX (Q101)/CHICGO, passed away this morning after turning 42 last month, according to CHICAGORADIOANDMEDIA.COM.
According to family members, LYNAM died from a sudden aortic dissection. There was no advance warning of trouble with his heart, other than his not feeling well a few days ago. Because of the medical issue they found, doctors chose to operate on his heart last night. He did not survive the procedure.
The COLUMBIA COLLEGE grad began in radio as a promotional assistant at the former WRCX-FM (ROCK 103.5) from 1995-1998. Along with that station's morning show, "MANCOW's Morning Madhouse," LYNAM moved over to WKQX-FM (Q101) in 1998. He worked as a producer for that show, as well as being an on-air contributor as "JIM JESUS the Yelling Guy." He eventually moved up to Executive Producer, staying in that role until MANCOW's exit in 2006.
WKQX-FM then made LYNAM a member of the station's new ensemble morning show, "The Morning Fix," remaining with the station through 2009.
Last DECEMBER, Lynam returned to radio as host on suburban WFXF-F for afternoons, rejoining his Q101 co-worker BRIAN SHERMAN.
WFXF PD RYAN WILD said in a statement: "We are devastated by the sudden loss of JIM. He was such an intense light of good in this place, and a day didn't go by where he didn't find a way to lift our spirits. He is truly a human being that can't be replaced, and he will live on in all of us who were fortunate to have the opportunity to have him in our lives. Today we lost one of the truly great guys in life, and in the radio business. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the LYNAM family during this difficult time."
LYNAM is a co-owner in the CHICAGO-based ALL AMERICAN WRESTLING LEAGUE as the owner attendees liked to yell at.
He was the married father of two young boys.
