Music Is The Star Again During Day Two Of The iHeartMedia Music Summit

iHEARTMEDIA hosted day two of its MUSIC SUMMIT, held at the iHEARTMEDIA THEATER in BURBANK with about 150 programmers present YESTERDAY (8/5). Among the highlights:
Verve Music Group
GM MIKE RITTBERG kicked off day two of the SUMMIT, talking about the upcoming DAVID FOSTER production "We Love Disney," which features an array of superstar artists soon to be announced, including CHARLES PERRY, who performed two songs with the CAROLINA CHOCOLATE DROPS and even took a request from the audience which led to an impromptu rendition of "The Panty Drop."
ATLANTIC RECORDS GROUP Chairman/COO JULIE GREENWALD spoke about the success of her talent roster. She requested no coverage on the company's sizzle reel, but response from those attending was nothing short of enthusiastic.
iHEARTMEDIA Pres./National Programming Platforms TOM POLEMAN and PREMIERE NETWORKS & MEDIABASE/iHEARTRADIO EVP/Music & Partner Integrations ALISSA POLLACK presented EVP/Head Of Promotion PETER GRAY and SVP/Promotion DAVID DYER with an award for "Most Adds In Mediabase History" representing the 156 adds received in one week for JASON DERULO's "Want To Want Me."
Their music presentation began with a live performance by KAYA STEWART of "I'm In Love With A Boy" - backed by a 14 person choir. After the song, GRAY invited the audience to check out her follow-up single "Let's Split" and also played the NICO & VINZ song "That's How You Know" and ADAM LAMBERT's "Ghost Town." GRAY also referenced upcoming music from DURAN DURAN and discussed new music coming from the label's acts FOALS, GARY CLARK, JR and ANDRA DAY.
GRAY finished the presentation with two very powerful numbers from MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS that will lead into a fall album from the 4x GRAMMY-winning duo.
Following the presentation, TOM POLEMAN and JOHN IVEY came out to chat with the audience, offering interested attendees a chance to drop by for an iHEART studios tour.
President DALE CONNONE spoke about the success of the independent label release "Lean On" by MAJOR LAZER (f. MO and DJ SNAKE), currently Top 5 at Pop radio. He also played a video of the follow-up, which features ELLIE GOULDING & TARRUS RILEY, called "Powerful."
EVP/GM JOE RICCITELLI and SVP/GM of Promotion GEO BIVENS took to the stage and played a sizzle reel featuring A$AP ROCKY "A.L.L.A.," PRINCE ROYCE "Back It Up" (f. PITBULL), WALK THE MOON "Different Colors," BRYSON TILLER "Don't," KYGO "Firestone" (f. Conrad), and WOLF ALICE "Bros."
RICCITELLI talked about his passion for their roster of talent including SIA, newcomer ELLE KING and also PENTATONIX, whose new single "Can't Sleep Love" was played.
Other featured clips included the MIGUEL track "Waves," CHRIS BROWN "Zero" and NICKY JAM & ENRIQUE IGLESIAS "Forgiveness." The audience was also treated to an upcoming PITBULL song that is being worked on for clearance.
The presentation featured live performances from GRACE, who was joined by G-EAZY, to perform the song "You Don't Own Me" and ELLE KING, who sang "Ex's And Oh's."
Concord Music Group
SVP/Radio & Video Promotion JILL WEINDORF was next, and she spoke about the growth with FEARLESS RECORDS, VANGUARD MUSIC and WIND-UP. Her sizzle reel included GHOST "Circe," "I PREVAIL "Blank Space," SEETHER "Nobody Praying For Me," THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT, NATHANIEL RATELIFF & THE NIGHT SWEATS "SOB," and MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD "Once A Day." ANDREW MCMAHON IN THE WILDERNESS played live, performing "High Dive" and the current single "Cecilia," a song named after his daughter.
EVP/Promotion GREG MARELLA took the stage and introduced R CITY, who thanked the audience for the support for their current single "Locked Away" (f. Adam Levine). They performed that and also sang another track "Make Up." MARELLA also mentioned there would be new music coming from LUNCHMONEY LEWIS, a song called "Whip It."
EVP/GM JOEL KLAIMAN presented for COLUMBIA, speaking about the success of OMI and RACHEL PLATTEN. He talked about HOZIER and his new song "Someone New" crossing to Top 40 and spoke about the success of LEON BRIDGES, whose video for the song "Coming Home" was played. BRIDGES treated the audience to an acoustic version of the song which was well received.
The sizzle reel presentation featured CALVIN HARRIS + DISCIPLES "How Deep Is Your Love," COLEMAN HELL "2 Heads," THE NEIGHBOURHOOD "RIP 2 My Youth," GEORGE EZRA "Blame It On Me," BRING ME THE HORIZON "The One" and OMI "Cheerleader."
RITA ORA stepped on stage and spoke to the audience about her music, thanking everyone for their support and then played the video for her next single "Body On Me" (f. CHRIS BROWN).
The sizzle reel presentation continued with ONE DIRECTION "Drag Me Down," PHOEBE RYAN "Mine" HOZIER "Someone Mew" DÉJ LOAF "Back Up" (f. BIG SEAN), LIZ "When I Rule The World," and RACHEL PLATTEN "Fight Song."
Wrapping things up, EVP/Promotion LEE LEIPSNER took the stage, thanking everyone in attendance for their support of LITTLE MIX, who were then brought out for an acapella performance of their current single "Black Magic."
Scooter Braun Projects
The presentation began with a couple laughs including a fun video spoof about MIKE CHESTER joining the company, after which BRAUN took the stage and made #johnivey the number one trending topic in the world. BRAUN covered serious topics too, including a discussion of providing accountability to their artists.
CHESTER talked about his new "prism in management versus just the airplay side of things," and taking into account the "massive amount of metrics" available to see how artists grow. Their stable of artists currently includes ARIANA GRANDE, TORI KELLY, CARLY RAE JEPSEN and JUSTIN BIEBER. The attendees were played BIEBER's forthcoming single "What Do You Mean," and the singer even made a surprise appearance wearing a shirt emblazened with CHESTER's likeness. BIEBER was very contrite and expressed thanks for the support his fans and radio have extended to him through his self-described "rough period" of the last couple of years.
ERIK OLESEN and GARRETT CAPONE showed a sizzle real including FALL OUT BOY, SIA, ANDREW MCMAHON IN THE WILDERNESS, PANIC! AT THE DISCO, NEW POLITICS, TRAVIE MCCOY, MATT NATHANSON, WEEZER, TRAIN, and MAX who made an appearance to perform his new single "Gibberish."
ROC NATION artist ROMANS played a live set for those assembled performing his single "Uh Huh" and a cool cover of THE WEEKND's hit "I Can't Feel My Face."
Three Six Zero Group
Head of Business Development JARED SIEGEL introduced company President DEAN WILSON who spoke about "Wings," a single from U.K. synthpop duo HURTS. He also talked about British DJ and deep house producer DUKE DUMONT. Called "the producer's producer," his single "I've Got You" is huge at Dance. WILSON played new DUMONT single, "Ocean Drive."
SVP/Promotion WARREN CHRISTENSEN presented next, telling the crowd, "We love radio and have 13 promotion people on staff. Our marketing plans all wrap around radio."
METALLICA were presented in a video clip, where they thanked radio for their support, while CHRISTENSEN hinted that "something special" was coming up from band.
Other Q PRIME acts using custom video clips to greet the attendees included RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, MUSE, BLACK KEYS, THE ARCS, ERIC CHURCH, CAGE THE ELEPHANT, VOLBEAT, THREE DAYS GRACE, SNOW PARTOL, FOALS and L.A. Alternative band SILVERSUN PICKUPS who were there to perform and debut the new track "Nightlight" from their album "Better Nature," due next month.
ULTRA President PATRICK MOXEY and VP Promotion PHIL NIEVES highlighted the global success and breakthrough week at Top 40 for KYGO's song "Firestone" followed by a video clip of his song "Stole The Show."
They then moved on to ALINA BARAZ + GALIMATIAS "Fantasy." a discussion on Trap music, the Rhythmic/Urban side of Electronic Music with FLOSSTRADAMUS featuring GTA and LIL' JON "Prison Riot" along with CARNAGE featuring ILOVEMAKONNEN "I Like Tuh."
They followed with LOST FREQUENCIES #1 UK single "Are You With Me" and a bit of an 18 year old producer FILOUS and his single with JAMES HERSEY "How Hard I Try."
ULTRA ended by highlighting the international success of OMI before inviting COLUMBIA's LEE LEIPSNER and JON BORRIS on stage to discuss the U.S. success of "Cheerleader" and celebrate the #1 Pop song in the country. LEE and JON then introduced OMI, who came out and surprised the crowd with a performance of "Cheerleader" and his new single "Hula Hoop."
EVP/Promotion TODD GLASSMAN introduced Chairman/CEO L.A. REID and label President SYLVIA RHONE to the crowd and then presented a sizzle reel packed with tunes including JIDENNA "Classic Man," TRANSVIOLET "Girls Your Age" and "New Bohemia," FUTURE "Where Ya At" (f. Drake), DEEP COTTON "Let's Get Caught," the MEGHAN TRAINOR/JOHN LEGEND duet "Like I'm Gonna Lose You," TRAVIS SCOTT "Antidote," BIG BOI and PHANTOGRAM "Goldmine Junkie," FIFTH HARMONY "I'm In Love With A Monster," LIPSTICK GYPSY "Infatuation" and "The Cure," PAUL REY "Good As Hell," CIARA "Dance Like We're Making Love," ZARA LARSSON "Lush Life," and AUDIODAM!" Radar."
Their presentation concluded with A GREAT BIG WORLD performing the song "Hold Each Other" live for the first time.
Suburban Noize/Regime Management
KEVIN ZINGER, co-founder of the MALIBU-based indie label/management company spoke with the attendees and welcomed the band the COMMON KINGS to the stage for a live performance.
Bad Boy Entertainment
Company founder, SEAN "DIDDY"COMBS addressed the late afternoon audience and presented a reel featuring label highlights from some 20+ years. TOM POLEMAN and JOHN SYKES came out to talk about DIDDY's new song "Fittin' To Get Loose" (f. PHARRELL WILLIAMS), which they then premiered. POLEMAN also revealed that the performer will be at this year's iHEART FESTIVAL.
National Promotions Director JEFF BALLARD presented a company sizzle reel featuring BOY & BEAR "Walk The Wire," MORGAN PAGE "Open Heart" (f. Lissie), and GOOD OLD WAR "Tell Me What You Want From Me." HERMITUDE, an Electronic duo from NEW SOUTH WALES performed a two song set of "Through The Roof" and "The Buzz."
The company, which handles Music Publishing, Label Services and Neighboring Rights presented NORTH AMERICA President DIARMUID QUINN, who spoke about the their talent roster and how artists and writers get paid stating, "We are better equipped to do more and better transitional tracking than anyone."
SVP/Promotion DONTAY THOMPSON and Head of Rock Promotion GEORGE CAPPELLINI JR. took the stage and rolled a video featuring YOUNG DRO "We In Da City," THE GAME "100" (f. Drake), CHEDDA DA CONNECT "Whippin' Up," RAY J "Brown Sugar" (f. Drake), CHINX "On Your Body (f. Meet Sims)," JOE BUDDEN "Broke," KATHERINE MCPHEE "Lick My Lips," CARROLL "Alligator," and POP EVIL "Footsteps."
VP/Promotion JOHN BUTLER came out and played a video all about Country artist LEE BRICE and his passion for playing live. BUTLER then welcomed to the stage THE OSWALD BROTHERS, who play under the moniker OBB, who performed the song "Bright Side."
With the presentations completed for the day, it was off to the HYDE SUNSET for the iHEART cocktail party.
