Close to 400 WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY BROADCASTING Contemporary Christian WGTS (91.9)/WASHINGTON, DC, listeners came together in the suburb of VIENNA, VA, to hear about the power of prayer.
Writer, director, actor and producer ALEX KENDRICK of the movies “Fireproof," "Facing The Giants” and “Courageous” shared how his movie ministry got started at his church and how prayer was key every step along the way.
He also shared his vision for encouraging CHRISTIANS to pray more. Prayer is theme of the new KENDRICK BROTHERS movie, “War Room,” which comes out in theaters on AUGUST 28th.
During the WGTS event, KENDRICK shared clips from the movie.
Contemporary CHRISTIAN band BUILDING 429, featured on the soundtrack, provided music for the evening. WGTS 91.9 morning team JERRY & BLANCA hosted the evening.
“Anytime we get a chance to engage our listeners and point them to positive entertainment choices, that’s an event we can feel good about. I feel like this event really allowed us to connect with our listeners and to pray with many of them,” said morning show co-host BLANCA VEGA.
In other WGTS news, the station sent out a pumped-up team to five different cities to serve free ice-cream provided by TURKEY HILL. The five-day tour made stops in the DC suburbs of LA PLATA, SILVER SPRING and LAUREL, MD. as well as MANASSAS and VIENNA, VA. When the last scoop had been served, the WGTS team had passed out frozen joy to over 3,000 listeners.
“This event was all about getting to know our local communities and just to thank them for listening and supporting the station through the years. It was so much fun we’re already making plans for an encore next year,” said WGTS 91.9 morning show host and promotions director JERRY WOOD.
Finally, close to 20,000 people enjoyed a powerful night of music and inspiration at the JIFFY LUBE LIVE outdoor arena in BRISTOW, VA, for the local, WGTS-promoted stop on the national OUTCRY TOUR.
OUTCRY is this year’s biggest worship festival, bringing together artists HILLSONG UNITED, PASSION WORSHIP BAND, LAUREN DAIGLE and KARI JOBE, among others. NICK HALL also gave a powerful message, saying, “God wants to reset whatever is wrong in your live and give you a fresh start.”
“This was so successful, OUTCRY has already told us that they’d like to come back to the DC area next year,” added WGTS 91.9 promotions assistant JOEY NINO.
