In a post at the FCC's blog about proposed changes to television's syndicated exclusivity and satellite retransmission rules, Chairman TOM WHEELER also briefly touched on a pair of issues affecting radio.
WHEELER wrote that he will "recommend adoption of several proposals discussed in the 2013 AM Radio Revitalization NPRM," adding that the Commission will ask about further updates in a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Notice of Inquiry. "I look forward to working on this issue, launched by then-Acting Chairwoman CLYBURN and championed by Commissioner PAI, and hope that broadcasters will participate extensively," wrote WHEELER.
"This comprehensive set of actions modernize our rules to keep them in line with the public interest in an ever-changing marketplace, and will help to ensure the continued vitality of AM radio."
He also said that the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on changes to contest rule notification requirements proposed by Commissioner MIKE O'RIELLY, including allowing stations to post rules online instead of, or in addition to, on the air had received "unanimous support."
