iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk WLW-A/CINCINNATI's "BIG BEN Alert" promo last week warning women about the presence of PITTSBURGH STEELERS quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER in CINCINNATI for SATURDAY's playoff game drew national attention and criticism this weekend.
The parody warned, "“The TRI-STATE is currently under a BIG BEN warning from now until early SUNDAY morning. The STEELERS quarterback has been spotted in the downtown CINCINNATI area. All females ages 18-40 are to use extreme caution, especially if heavily consuming alcohol. Males should also be on the lookout, just in case. If you see BIG BEN and he flashes Little Ben, you are asked to report it to authorities immediately. He poses the greatest threat to 18-to-40-year-olds, especially those with boob jobs in the downtown CINCINNATI area. You are safe if you live in BUTLER or CLERMONT counties, pretty much anywhere in KENTUCKY and most of southeast INDIANA.” ROETHLISBERGER has been twice accused of sexual assault, once in a civil suit that was settled and once in which charges were not brought, and he was suspended for six games for "personal conduct" in 2010.
The spot drew coverage from TMZ and many news outlets across the country, and the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER reported that KENTON COUNTY, KY prosecutor ROB SANDERS tweeted, "f sexual assaults were anything to joke about, this might be funny. But they're NOT. Stay classy @700wlw!" and added, "I'm as much of a BENGALS fan, and as much of a STEELERS hater, as anyone else in the CINCINNATI area, but sexual assault is not a joking matter under any circumstances."
The STEELERS beat the BENGALS 18-16 after a fumble gave the STEELERS the ball back and penalties on VONTAZE BURFICT and ADAM "PACMAN" JONES in the last 22 seconds put the STEELERS into chip-shot field goal range, setting up CHRIS BOSWELL's game-winner.
