Radio Personality, PD Richard 'Dick Kent' Withers, 74, Passes

RICHARD KENT WITHERS, known to listeners in MOBILE, BIRMINGHAM and NASHVILLE as DICK KENT, died FRIDAY, JANUARY 8th at the age of 74 at SAINT FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER in his hometown of CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.
DICK spent his later years in advertising in CAPE GIRARDEAU after working as a radio personality at WGGH/MARION, IL, WABB/MOBILE, AL, WSGN/BIRMINGHAM, AL, and WMAK and WLAC/NASHVILLE. WITHERS was the recipient of the MUSIC INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION's REEL TOP 40 RADIO MUSIC AWARDS as PD of WLAC.
He was a member and Second Reader at the FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST, in CAPE GIRARDEAU and the BELLEVIEW MASONIC LODGE in NASHVILLE. WITHERS held a bachelor of science degree from SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY.
Survivors include three sons, DAVID LEE CORBIT of CONROE, TX; DEAN LEE CORBIT of RICHMOND, TX, and RICHARD KENDALL WITHERS of YUMA, AZ; a brother, WILLIAM JOSEPH WITHERS, SR., of THEODORE, AL; a sister, LINDI JANES of CAPE GIRARDEAU; three grandchildren; a niece; four nephews; and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to SHRINERS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, TAMPA, FL 33607), and to SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND (1 University Plaza, MS 7300, CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO 63701).
