CUMULUS and WESTWOOD ONE VP/Social and MERGE author LORI LEWIS writes, "FACEBOOK and TWITTER recently worked together to release new information about mobile content consumption on their respective platforms.
"Of the 73% of people in the U.S. that say their phone is always with them, half say that they check their phone more than 30 times a day. (And that percentage increases for millennials.)
"And on average, people consume mobile content on FACEBOOK and TWITTER in 1.7 seconds. That's how long you have to make an impression right now. Round it off -- two seconds.
"People are recording their 'timelines' and they aren't especially interested in what brands are doing or how great they say they are. Unless we are giving them what they crave. And that is things they can relate to."
MERGE is designed and written to help assist the radio and record industry in the social and digital space.
