Msgr. THOMAS J. HARTMAN, half of the radio, television, and print "GOD SQUAD" team that brought religious commentary to mainstream audiences, passed away TUESDAY (2/16) in UNIONDALE, NY at 69, reports NEWSDAY. "FATHER TOM," who paired with Rabbi MARC GELLMAN for frequent appearances on the syndicated "IMUS IN THE MORNING" radio show and "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" on ABC television, had been battling Parkinson's disease for over a decade.
HARTMAN and GELLMAN began their frequently humorous pairing on local LONG ISLAND cable television in 1987; their appearances on IMUS' show followed soon thereafter. HARTMAN, who headed the Roman Catholic Diocese of ROCKVILLE CENTRE, LONG ISLAND's TELECARE cable channel, also hosted "JOURNEYS THROUGH ROCK" for ABC RADIO NETWORK and "RELIGION AND ROCK" on Rock WBAB/LONG ISLAND and, with GELLMAN, wrote a syndicated newspaper column for TRIBUNE MEDIA SERVICES.
