Longtime radio vet GENE DAVIS (CHRISTIANSON), now at KMBC-TV/KANSAS CITY checks in to pass along the sad news of the passing over the weekend of FRED SANDERS, "one of my best friends for 28 years, and my boss and mentor for eight of those years. FRED worked for NBC-owned radio stations in CLEVELAND, MIAMI, NEW YORK, and finally CHICAGO, where he launched a very popular overnight trucker’s show.
"After WMAQ changed formats, FRED and three partners launched The INTERSTATE RADIO NETWORK in 1988. Eventually heard on more than 80 stations across the U.S. and CANADA, this syndicated nightly program originated from the WGN studios in CHICAGO’s TRIBUNE Tower. After IRN was sold and relocated to NASHVILLE in ‘96, FRED returned to the land of his roots -- GREENVILLE, SC --where he did production, continuity, and voice work for ENTERCOM’s group. He retired from there last year."
There will be no services, per SANDERS’ request.
