THE NEW YORK TIMES is reporting that COO THOMAS STAGGS, who was widely seen as the heir apparent to retiring Chairman/CEO BOB IGER, is leaving the company effective next month in a move that took entertainment industry observers by surprise.
STAGGS' resignation, coming amidst talk that some members of the DISNEY board were unhappy with the prospect of STAGGS taking over on a creative level, leaves DISNEY heading back to Square One in a search for IGER's successor. IGER's stated plan is to step down in JUNE 2018; STAGGS was named COO in FEBRUARY 2015 and was previously Sr. EVP and CFO of the company.
