CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA and "THIS AMERICAN LIFE" producer IRA GLASS' SERIAL PODCAST, LLC have been denied a trademark for the logos of "SERIAL" by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The applications, filed in NOVEMBER 2014, were denied on MARCH 22nd by examiner COLLEEN M. DOMBROW, who deemed the name and marks too generic. The name was included in three applications to trademark SERIAL's six-rectangle logo and standard typeset name, for the category of "Entertainment in the nature of an ongoing audio program featuring investigative reporting, interviews, and documentary storytelling."
