Mediabase: Prince Radio Airplay Explodes After Death
April 22, 2016 at 12:47 PM (PT)
PRINCE's airplay went from 1,234 spins on THURSDAY, APRIL 14, to 20,789 on the day of his death, APRIL 21st, according to MEDIABASE's measurement of NORTH AMERICAN radio.
"Radio, once again, was where fans of many formats turned to hear the music and tributes to one of the most original stars of our lifetime," stated MEDIABASE on releasing the findings.
PRINCE was found dead in his home outside MINNEAPOLIS yesterday, which prompted a worldwide outpouring of grief among not just the industry and fellow musicians, but millions of fans of his work.
Radio, good old-fashioned CDs and vinyl may be the only place you can actually hear PRINCE's music since he was adamant about allowing it to be on "free" streaming sites like YOUTUBE or SPOTIFY... but his music is available on JAY Z's TIDAL, where he released his last album exclusively.
His catalog can be downloaded on iTUNES as well as AMAZON and GOOGLE PLAY, without a streaming option.
PRINCE famously announced, "The Internet is completely over," back in 2010, later clarifying the remark to include "anybody that wants to get paid," in 2015.
