MCA NASHVILLE’s GEORGE STRAIT kicked off the first series of his “STRAIT TO VEGAS” dates over the WEEKEND, playing to 20,000 fans at the newly opened LAS VEGAS T-MOBILE ARENA. STRAIT announced this concert series last SEPTEMBER (NET NEWS 9/22), his first live shows since a 2014 tour farewell in DALLAS before more than 100,000 in AT&T STADIUM.
iHEARTMEDIA Country WSIX/NASHVILLE MD KIMSEY KERR was at the weekend show in VEGAS and tells ALL ACCESS: “The show was everything a GEORGE fan would expect it to be, and more. He walked out on stage, and it was like he had never stopped touring. The sound was incredible, and so was the sold-out crowd. There were the classics he played, and there were some new ones sprinkled in, but the vocals and band were perfect all night! A special part of the evening was a three song tribute to MERLE [HAGGARD] including ‘Mama Tried,’ ‘The Fightin' Side of Me,’ and ‘My Life's Been Grand.’ GEORGE still looks great and is still as humble and kind as ever. It is safe to say that GEORGE just gets better with age.”
STRAIT’s LAS VEGAS set list included 28 songs, ending with his classic “Unwound,” which no doubt provoked a rush to the stage, as is tradition. He then gave fans a five-song encore, finishing the show -- fittingly -- with “The Cowboy Rides Away.” See the complete set list here.
