The 10th ANNUAL STAGECOACH FESTIVAL took place over the weekend (4/29-5/1) in COACHELLA, CA, featuring more than 60 acts on multiple stages. Among the stars performing: daily headliners ERIC CHURCH, CARRIE UNDERWOOD and LUKE BRYAN, who closed out the event last NIGHT (5/1). ALL ACCESS had eyes and ears embedded in the crowd and backstage.
ALPHA MEDIA Country KDES (98.5 THE BULL)/PALM SPRINGS, CA PD TOMMY “TOMMY C” CARRERA worked STAGECOACH for the station, watched various shows and was one of the DJ performers at the HONKYTONK STAGE, which featured dance music as well as live bands. He got a 360 degree view of the weekend and tells ALL ACCESS, “LUKE [BRYAN] did not disappoint, bringing up [LITTLE BIG TOWN’s] KAREN FAIRCHILD during his set to sing ‘Home Alone Tonight.' Then he asked LBT on stage, and they did a combo of ED SHEERAN’s 'Thinking Out Loud,' and 'Let’s Get It On' by MARVIN GAYE. LUKE joked that you have ‘no game at STAGECOACH’ if you couldn’t hook up during those five minutes. ‘Hashtag no game.’”
“LUKE then made it even crazier, bringing out DUSTIN LYNCH and a beer cooler,” added CARRERA. “They started tossing each other beers and sang BROOKS & DUNN’s ‘Play Something Country,’ following up with a rowdy version of [JASON] ALDEAN’s ‘She’s Country.’ Most of his performance, LUKE kept saying ‘We’re not leaving! I’m gonna play all night,’ which he came close to, performing past his scheduled set time.”
ENTERCOM KSON/SAN DIEGO “JOHN AND TAMMY” morning co-host JOHN FLINT described SNOOP DOGG’s surprise appearance with SAM HUNT as, “Uncomfortable, hilarious and awesome. There were more swear words in that weird moment than in the entire history of STAGECOACH.” FLINT also noted, “What's seriously great about STAGECOACH is watching how much the artists themselves are into it. This is clearly a gig they circle on their calendars, and it shows.”
Additionally, COUNTRY RADIO SEMINAR’s ASHLEY SILVER attended the festival as a fan, and brought along her mother, who told us, “If you haven't done it, you have to go at least once in your lifetime. My bucket list item has been checked off! And CARRIE UNDERWOOD was the best person all weekend. She's a rockstar." SILVER added, “CHRIS STAPLETON sounded like a scruffy angel, as per usual, and his no frills performance made girls love him and made guys want to be him. OLD DOMINION had the most energy I've ever seen them have. They really got the crowd into it and gained new fans. CAITLYN SMITH absolutely killed her performance … while pregnant; people talked about it all day. DUSTIN LYNCH brought out LIT to sing ‘My Own Worst Enemy, and I've never seen people take out their phones faster to record it. That was probably my favorite moment, because I get spoiled seeing all these people in NASHVILLE, but for DUSTIN to bring out a completely unexpected artist was really cool.” Attendance for STAGECOACH was estimated at 75,000 per day.
