GORD DOWNIE, the lead singer of CANADA's THE TRAGICALLY HIP, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, but the band has told fans that he will accompany them on one more tour this SUMMER.
At its website, the band said that DOWNIE, 52, has "endured a lot of difficult times" since his DECEMBER diagnosis, but that the tour "feels like the right thing to do now, for GORD, and for all of us. What we in THE HIP receive, each time we play together, is a connection; with each other; with music and it’s magic; and during the shows, a special connection with all of you, our incredible fans. So, we’re going to dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet." Dates and locations for the tour have yet to be determined.
The HIP, whose next album "MAN MACHINE POEM" is due in JUNE from UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA, has won 14 JUNO Awards and is a major draw across CANADA; DOWNIE has also recorded three solo albums and one with THE SADIES.
