Tina Knowles-Lawsom To Receive 'Inspiring Leadership Award' At Essence Festival

Fashion designer, author and philanthropist TINA KNOWLES-LAWSON will receive the first-ever "INSPIRING LEADERSHIP AWARD" during the 2016 ESSENCE FESTIVAL on SUNDAY, JULY 3rd. The presentation will take place during the annual all-star GOSPEL TRIBUTE at the ERNEST N. MORIAL CONVENTION CENTER.

KNOWLES-LAWSOM will be honored for her years as a pioneer in the entertainment industry and for providing leadership, mentorship and inspiration to many. Best known as the visionary behind the creative image of the biggest selling girl group of all time — DESTINY'S CHILD — KNOWLES-LAWSON’s work has been featured internationally in a slew of publications and broadcast outlets. She is also a committed philanthropist who promotes social justice, community relations and women’s empowerment through a number of organizations, among them THE KNOWLES-ROWLAND CENTER FOR YOUTH, THE SURVIVOR FOUNDATION, MISS A MEAL and GOODWILL. ESSENCE Editor-at-Large MIKKI TAYLOR will also conduct a live Q&A with KNOWLES-LAWSON following the awards presentation.

In addition, ESSENCE will feature its annual all-star GOSPEL TRIBUTE saluting the legendary singing group THE CLARK SISTERS, and showcase uplifting performances by fellow artists YOLANDA ADAMS, KIERRA SHEARD, FAITH EVANS, LEDISI, KEKE WYATT and others. An experience that is free of cost and open to everyone, attendees will enjoy a day of intimate yet powerful performances from some of the most legendary names in Gospel; top-rated choirs from across the nation and a chance to connect mind, body and spirit in a meaningful way. The tribute will be hosted by TV personality and author CHERYL WILLS.
