TOM KELLY, the longtime radio voice of UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA sports, has passed away. The LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS' TOM HOFFARTH, KELLY's co-author for "Tales from the USC TROJANS Sidelines." reports that KELLY died this morning at his home in ENCINO, CA after a battle with cancer, two days before his 89th birthday.
KELLY called USC football and men's basketball from 1961, when he joined CHICK HEARN on the broadcasts, through 2003, including calling five national championship football seasons. He also anchored sports at CBS O&O KNXT (now KCBS-TV) and METROMEDIA independent KTTV (now a FOX O&O) and worked for the original version of the PRIME TICKET regional cable sports network.
