Condolences to family and friends of LOUIS APPELL JR., the former President and CEO of SUSQUEHANNA PFALTZGRAFF, the kitchenware company that also owned several radio stations; APPELL died MONDAY (6/27) in YORK, PA at 92, according to the YORK DAILY RECORD.
APPELL's family business started with ownership of PFALTZGRAFF, the pottery business, in the 19th century and moved into radio with the founding of WSBA-A/YORK, PA in 1941. The company grew to add cable television in 1965, real estate in 1981, and 33 radio stations across the country, including stations in DALLAS, HOUSTON, MIAMI, PROVIDENCE, SCRANTON, AKRON, and SAN FRANCISCO, until its sale to CUMULUS in 2006.
