COX MEDIA GROUP OHIO Market VP JULIA WALLACE, who recently announced her retirement from the company at the end of the year (NET NEWS 6/7), will join the faculty of ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY's WALTER CRONKITE SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION as the FRANK RUSSELL Chair for the Business of Journalism.
WALLACE will begin teaching at ASU in JANUARY, taking the seat being vacated by the retiring TIM MCGUIRE, the former MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE editor; she has been overseeing COX's DAYTON cluster, including News-Talk WHIO-A-F, Country WHOK (K99.1), Classic Rock WZLR-W266BG (95.3 AND 101.1 THE EAGLE), CBS affiliate WHIO-TV, and digital and live event operations. Previously, WALLACE was Editor-in-Chief of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION and worked at the ARIZONA REPUBLIC, SALEM STATESMAN JOURNAL, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, USA TODAY, and the old DALLAS TIMES-HERALD and NORFOLK LEDGER-STAR.
“I’m so delighted to be joining the CRONKITE SCHOOL,” WALLACE said. “The media business is changing fast, and the school is at the forefront of that change. I can’t think of a better place to work with this generation of students. They will be critical to determining the future of journalism.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Julia as the new RUSSELL Chair,” said CRONKITE SCHOOL Dean CHRISTOPHER CALLAHAN. “Her three decades of experience as an award-winning journalist and a pioneering media executive make her a perfect fit to help us teach and guide the next generation of journalism innovators.”
