July 11, 2016 at 5:39 AM (PT)
ESPN AUDIO and FIVE THIRTY EIGHT are adding podcasts, including a show based on the acclaimed documentary series "30 FOR 30," and a post from producer/host JODY AVIRGAN at FIVE THIRTY EIGHT says that they'll be needing some new hires to do it.
AVIRGAN writes that ESPN is establishing a "30 FOR 30" podcasting unit headed by himself with ESPN FILMS' LIBBY GEIST, ADAM NEUHAUS, and RYAN NANTELL, and the unit has posted listings for five new jobs, three producers and two production assistants, with the search not limited to podcasting or radio-experienced applicants. The jobs are based in NEW YORK and will last 18 months, the time allotted for production.
In addition, ESPN's FIVE THIRTY EIGHT, the statistics-focused site established by NATE SILVER, is hiring a full-time podcast producer, a permanent position, to assume duties currently held by AVIRGAN; there is no official posting for the job, but experienced radio journalists can apply via email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “FiveThirtyEight Podcast Position.”
