Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Awards $23k In Scholarships

The MASSACHUSETTS BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION (MBA) has awarded 10 students with 2016-2017 STUDENT BROADCASTER SCHOLARSHIPS in the amount of $2,000, as well as one student with the AL SPRAGUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for $3,000.
STUDENT BROADCASTER SCHOLARSHIPS are given to students pursuing a career in over-the-air broadcasting and enrolled in a broadcast program at a two or four-year accredited school. This year, 10 MASSACHUSETTS residents were selected from nearly 100 applicants for the $2,000 scholarship. Winners were chosen based on financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, and an essay about their interest in broadcasting by representatives from participating radio and television stations.
Attending a ceremony at the NAISMITH MEMORIAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME on WEDNESDAY, JULY 13th was scholarship winner WILLIAM PRATT of GRANVILLE, MA, attending the UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS.
The following recipients and their families were part of a brief presentation at WCVB-TV on JULY 14th. MBA Board Member and WCVB-TV GM BILL FINE Bill Fine handed out scholarships to COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY's KATIE CURRAN (POCASSET, MA); CURRY COLLEGE's SALVADOR LOPEZ III (REHOBOTH, MA); UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE's CASSANDRA HALL (HARWICH, MA); UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND's PETER ELIOPOULOUS (IPSWICH, MA); QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY's MICHAEL BAIRD (PEMBROKE, MA); SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY's JACOB TOBEY, and UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS' MEGHAN PARSONS (BILLERICA, MA).
Unable to attend either ceremony was UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS' JAMES VILLALOBOS (SPRINGFIELD, MA) and AMERICAN UNIVERSITY's JACOB ROBBINS (WEST STOCKBRIDGE, MA).
For the seventh year, an additional scholarship was given in memory of the late AL SPRAGUE, former president of the MBA, to UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS' SARAH MURPHY (HYANNIS, MA), who was awarded $3,000.
