Producer, Manager Sandy Pearlman Dies At 72

SANDY PEARLMAN, the rock critic turned producer for BLUE OYSTER CULT and THE CLASH, has passed away at 72. PEARLMAN suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last DECEMBER; he died TUESDAY (7/26) of pneumonia and complications from the hemorrhage in MARIN COUNTY, CA.
PEARLMAN was one of the original rock critics at the seminal music magazine CRAWDADDY in 1966; later, he managed BLUE OYSTER CULT, BLACK SABBATH, THE DICTATORS, and ROMEO VOID and produced acts like BOC, THE CLASH, and many others. He was a member of the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS preservation board, taught at MCGILL UNIVERSITY and the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO, bought 415 RECORDS (renamed POPULAR METAPHYSICS), founded what became eMUSIC and ALPHA AND OMEGA RECORDING, and received 17 Gold or Platinum records.
