The 2016 OLYMPICS begin in RIO on AUGUST 5th. LAWRENCE, KS native and UNIV. OF KANSAS alum, MASON FINLEY will represent TEAM USA when he competes in the shot put and discus event. A GoFundMe account has been established to raise funds which will be used to send FINLEY's mother and twin sisters to watch him participate.
GREAT PLAINS MEDIA Top 40 KKSW (105.9 KISS FM)/LAWRENCE-TOPEKA wanted to help raise awareness and funds by hosting a discus-shaped cookie throwing contest this week.
LAWRENCE Mayor MIKE AMYX, business owner MATT LLEWELLYN, GREAT PLAINS MEDIA’s HANK BOOTH and KISS morning host, ANDY WELCH took part. The event was broadcast on sister N/T/S station KLWN.
KISS PD BETH CRUISE said, "We are so proud to be able to assist MASON’s family in this exciting adventure. When we heard his mom was working two jobs to try to pay for this trip, we knew we had to jump in and assist! It was my GM’s idea to host a celebrity discus toss."
GM TIM ROBISCH added "MASON is a very fitting member of TEAM USA and we are thrilled to be helping his family be able to see him participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Bring home the gold to KANSAS, MASON and ROCK CHALK!"
