Protecting Assets From Hulk Hogan Verdict, Gawker's Nick Denton Files For Personal Bankruptcy

As expected, GAWKER MEDIA Founder/CEO NICK DENTON has filed for personal bankruptcy, a move to protect his assets from being taken to satisfy the judgment won by HULK HOGAN in the pro wrestler's lawsuit against GAWKER.
HOGAN won $140 million in a jury verdict against GAWKER, DENTON, and former editor A.J. DAULERIO over the publication on GAWKER.COM of HOGAN's sex tape with the wife of BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE and other comments made by HOGAN on tapes obtained by the website. GAWKER MEDIA is being auctioned off after itself filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in JUNE. DENTON's personal bankruptcy stays any action by creditors -- including HOGAN -- to move against his assets; he was found jointly liable for $115 million but personally liable for $10 million. The case is on appeal.
