KOBALT has signed a worldwide administration agreement for the new publishing company, BLUE RAINCOAT SONGS. Industry veteran, JEREMY LASCELLES, who previously ran the CHRYSALIS MUSIC GROUP, is a co-founder alongside fellow veteran and producer, ROBIN MILLAR. In addition, KOBALT LABEL SERVICES and CHRYSALIS RECORDS have signed a global label services deal. KLS will be providing distribution services to the newly independent label and catalog.
CHRYSALIS RECORDS, one of the leading BRITISH independent labels responsible for shaping the global music industry, was recently purchased in a deal led by BLUE RAINCOAT MUSIC’s LASCELLES and MILLAR (CBE). The agreement sees the co-founder and original owner of CHRYSALIS, CHRIS WRIGHT (CBE), reunited with the legendary label as he returns as Non Executive Chairman 27 years after selling the company to EMI.
KOBALT President RICHARD SANDERS commented: “We’ve known JEREMY, ROBIN and CHRIS for many years and have always admired their work and overall contribution to the industry and to so many artists’ careers. Their catalog is rich with exceptional talent and both BLUE RAINCOAT SONGS and CHRYSALIS RECORDS are ideal partners for KOBALT as their core values of ‘artist-first’ align perfectly with ours.”
KLS President PAUL HITCHMAN added: "The combination of the legendary CHRYSALIS catalog, JEREMY and ROBIN’s deep knowledge of music, and KOBALT’s cutting-edge technology and services platform is the basis for a very exciting partnership. We can’t wait to get started on maximizing the potential of the CHRYSALIS catalog and working closely with JEREMY, ROBIN and the CHRYSALIS team on building the label for the new music business."
BLUE RAINCOAT SONGS founder LASCELLES and co-founder MILLAR stated in a joint quote, "From the outset of our discussions, KOBALT’s desire to be in business with us was both flattering and utterly persuasive. In the past, we have seen them as a competitor. We are now thrilled to have them as a partner. As a company, they are true industry innovators. We expect this to be the start of a long and beautiful relationship.”
