JoJo Garcia Hired To Launch El Paso Catholic Radio Station
August 12, 2016 at 8:08 AM (PT)
JOJO GARCIA, a longtime radio fixture in EL PASO, SAN ANTONIO and HOUSTON, has been hired by the DIOCESE OF EL PASO to begin its Catholic radio ministry. GARCIA, the diocese’s first-ever program director, started work JULY 25th.
GARCIA has 28 years in the media business, in various positions: on-air personality, production, promotions, programming and as an operations director. Most recently, GARCIA worked for ENTRAVISION COMMUNICATIONS as the Prom. Dir. for nine TV and radio stations, and is the voice for the ARIZONA CARDINALS NFL in Español.
GARCIA said, "I am just thrilled to be here! I’m so excited with all the possibilities that lay ahead of us. I know the market, I know how to launch us digitally and I aim to have us broadcasting in an over-the-air station by fall. This will be a defining moment for the DIOCESE OF EL PASO. I envision music sweeps that will lead into some of the catechesis of the church. We want to highlight crossover artists who will be familiar to our younger audience without disenfranchising our older listener. There’s also a need to hear from our priests, not only on what’s going on in their parishes but in hearing catechesis from them as well."
DIOCESE OF EL PASO Dir. Comm. ELIZABETH O'HARA adds, "While we’ve had a low frequency AM radio ministry that we shared with CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO, this is the first time we’re getting serious about launching a terrestrial station of our own."
The station, which has not yet been named, will provide 24/7 inspirational music, news, and talk with a special emphasis on the diocese’s ministries.
