GAWKER MEDIA will shut down its flagship GAWKER.COM site next week, the site announced in a post TODAY (8/18). The parent company's sale in bankruptcy to UNIVISION for $135 million is expected to be approved by a bankruptcy court TODAY, and staffers for GAWKER will be offered reassignment at one of the other GAWKER MEDIA sites or at another UNIVISION property.
The seven GAWKER MEDIA sites were auctioned off after GAWKER filed for bankruptcy in the wake of HULK HOGAN's $140 million judgment against it, founder NICK DENTON, and former editor A.J. DAULERIO. GAWKER MEDIA sites to continue are the sports site DEADSPIN, tech news site GIZMODO, car site JALOPNIK, women's issues site JEZEBEL, gaming site KOTAKU, and practical advice site LIFEHACKER.
