Former NHL defenseman BRENT SOPEL has joined TRIBUNE MEDIA News-Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO as hockey analyst and co-host of the weekend show "THE BEAT" alongside MARK CARMAN, ADAM HOGE, and JARRETT PAYTON.
“With BRENT SOPEL joining our sports conversation, we can ramp up for more expanded BLACKHAWKS coverage,” said VP of Programming and Content TODD MANLEY. “As a mentor to some of today’s biggest stars, BRENT brings a depth of knowledge in the past, present, and future of this great game.”
“I’m very excited to join the WGN family and look forward to a [BLACKHAWKS] long run in the playoffs,” said SOPEL, who played for the VANCOUVER CANUCKS, NEW YORK ISLANDERS, LOS ANGELES LINGS, ATLANTA THRASHERS, and MONTREAL CANADIENS along with playing for the 2010 STANLEY CUP winning CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS. He retired in 2015 after brief stints in RUSSIA's KHL and with the AHL's CHICAGO WOLVES.
