RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY FESTIVAL NEW YORK will return for a fifth consecutive year this spring, bringing a legacy of acclaimed original programming that "explores and celebrates the city's rich cultural heritage while also spotlighting the contemporary musicians currently shaping this heritage."
The month-long music series will feature performances by some of the most impactful musical artists of the current moment, tributes to iconic NYC musicians and their scenes, conversations with creative trailblazers, and celebrations of various international influences on the city's nightlife. The shows will unfold at some of the city's most unique venues, ranging from prestigious institutions to outdoor locations and uncharted spaces completely reconfigured for the occasion.
The festival has become an annual NEW YORK CITY tradition, continuing the legacy of the critically acclaimed RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY that took place in NEW YORK for its 15th anniversary in 2013.
Last year's iteration included the world premiere of ANOHNI's "Hopelessness" live show; DIZZEE RASCAL performing his classic grime album "Boy In Da Corner"; KAMASI WASHINGTON, PHAROAD SANDERS and THE SUN RA ARKESTRA appearing on the same bill celebrating three generations of spiritual jazz; influential composer, vocalist and activist DIAMANDA GALAS returning for her first NYC shows in years; and EDDIE PALMIERI revisiting his politically-charged 1971 album "HARLEM River Drive" during a free outdoor show in HARLEM.
