While revenues remained virtually unchanged at €17.0 billion, Operating EBITDA rose to a record €2.57 billion and Group profit rose to €1.14 billion, the highest level since 2006.

“BERTELSMANN has changed considerably in recent years," BERTELSMANN Chairman/CEO THOMAS RABE said. "Our business figures for 2016 make it clear once again that the Group restructuring is paying off -– BERTELSMANN is more profitable today than it has been in a long time. We have become visibly faster-growing, more digital, more international and more diversified, and we will continue this development. To this end, we will invest several billion euros in our high-growth and digital businesses by 2020. Besides BRAZIL, INDIA and CHINA, the U.S. is a particular focus in the international expansion of our businesses.”
“We further strengthened the company's sound financial position last year," BERTELSMANN CFO BERND HIRSCH said. "BERTELSMANN has strong cash from operations, a high equity ratio, and stable ratings. This gives us the freedom to energetically advance the company’s strategic transformation.”
