SAGA COMMUNICATIONS Rock KAZR (LAZER 103.3)/DES MOINES is changing its name to METALLICA 103.3 to mark the band's first concert appearance in the city since 2008, according to the DES MOINES REGISTER.
METALLICA is set to appear at the IOWA SPEEDWAY on JUNE 9th as part of the WORLDWIRED 2017 tour. The show is slated as a fundraiser for the ASHTON KUTCHER and DALLAS CLARK-founded non-profit THE NATIVE FUND, which helps Iowans during disaster relief.
LAZER plans to switch its website, social media and on-air promotions to METALLICA 103.3 at 6a (CT) FRIDAY (APRIL 21st) and play exclusively METALLICA tracks until 10p (CT) SUNDAY. The station is giving away tickets to the concert every hour FRIDAY.
LAZER brand manager RYAN PATRICK commented, “You've got this band that’s got this body of work from the ‘80s until now and they continue to put out great music.”
On MONDAY, the station's afternoon-drive host ANDY HALL interviewed the band’s guitarist KIRK HAMMETT, who remembered playing the legendary IOWA JAM with the group back in 1986.
