Kudos to SCRIPPS Country KFDI (101.3 TODAY'S KFDI)/WICHITA, KS, which TODAY (6/20) was announced as a winner of the National EDWARD R. MURROW AWARD in the "Breaking News" category for 2017. KFDI took home the Regional Award in the same category in APRIL (NET NEWS 4/25) and is the only Country station to win a National Award this YEAR as honored by the RADIO TELEVISION DIGITAL NEWS ASSOCIATION (RTDNA) (NET NEWS 6/19).
"This is a significant recognition for the KFDI radio news team and our second National MURROW AWARD in as many years," said KFDI OM JUSTIN CASE. "Our ability to provide urgent information to our community in a breaking news situation is at the core of what we do, and it is truly rewarding to receive recognition for our efforts from the RTDNA." The winning entry came from KFDI's coverage of a workplace shooting in HESSTON, KS on FEBRUARY 25th, 2016. The station's entry featured first reports of the shooting, live coverage, and eyewitness accounts from the scene; it can be heard here.
