Condolences to family and friends of ENTERCOM News-Talk WILK-A-F-WKZN-A-WBZU-A/WILKES-BARRE-SCRANTON afternoon host L.A. TARONE, who died SUNDAY night (6/25) after a battle with cancer at 58.
TARONE (the L.A. stood for LOUIS ALFRED) started his radio career while a student at KINGS COLLEGE in WILKES-BARRE at the school's WRKC; he worked in music radio at the old WBQW-A/SCRANTON, WPCN-A/MOUNT POCONO, WKRZ/WILKES-BARRE, and WAVT (T-102)/POTTSVILLE before becoming News Director at WAZL-A/HAZELTON, where he also hosted a talk show and brought his "SUNDAY NIGHT HALL OF FAME" Oldies show to sister WKAB.
After that run, he became News Director at low power independent TV station WYLN-LP/HAZELTON and joined WILK as a weekend host. He became a weekday WILK host in 2014, initially in evenings. He also wrote a column for the HAZELTON STANDARD-SPEAKER.
