An ALASKA radio station is facing a proposed $66,000 fine from the FCC for several violations, some of which the Commission said undermined the effectiveness of the Emergency Alert System.
KENAI EDUCATIONAL MEDIA noncommercial Variety KIBH/SEWARD, AK got hit with the fine because, the Commission said, it "was notified on multiple occasions by the FCC that it had programmed its EAS equipment messages for a radio station serving a different geographic area than that served by KENAI, was failing to monitor at least two EAS sources, and did not keep EAS operation information available to staff as required."
Other violations included failure to maintain required records and failure to respond to several FCC inquiries, including a warning notice after an agent in the Commission's ANCHORAGE field office discovered the violations.
