WRRD/Milwaukee Objects To Proposed WTMJ FM Translator Deal
NEW WRRD, LLC has filed an informal objection to the deal under which FRANK G. MCCOY has applied for a change to W277CV/MILWAUKEE to change primary stations from NEW WRRD's News-Talk WRRD-A/MILWAUKEE to SCRIPPS News-Talk WTMJ-A and move to the WTMJ-TV tower. The objection claims that the modification is impermissible for a permit already granted under a MATTOON Waiver, which, the objection states, requires the translator to carry the designated AM primary station for at least four years as a condition of the grant.
WNKN/Middletown, OH Sold, To Return To Local Commercial Operation
Also, WVXU/CINCINNATI's JOHN KIESEWETTER is reporting that NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY will be getting $4 million cash and $1.3 million in advertising time from the sale of Triple A WNKN/MIDDLETOWN, OH to GRANT COUNTY BROADCASTING, a deal approved by the school's board on WEDNESDAY. While the initial report said that the buyer, headed by JEFF ZIESMANN, would keep the Triple A format for one year after closing, ZIESMANN later said that there is no such agreement.
In a press release, ZIESMANN said that the station will feature "local ownership, a locally produced format, local jobs and, as a commercial operation, local taxes” and wil be converted "back to for-profit, commercial operation and is doing research that will determine the format that will present the best possible ratings and revenue opportunity for the station. We are looking at all of our programming options, including, but certainly not limited to, the AAA format currently on the station. However, the market will determine the future direction of the station.”
